murdered by the Islamic State after she was accused of being a spy. Ruqia Hassan often posted information about the daily lives of residents living under ISIS in its Syrian stronghold of Raqqa.
Writing under the pen name Nissan Ibrahim, Ms Hassan's posts described how the city was targeted by coalition airstrikes on a regular basis. It is not clear when the young journalist was first arrested by ISIS militants but her last Twitter post was on July 21 last year. Her family were only informed of her death three days ago and were told she was found guilty of carrying out counts of espionage.
